Speaker’s Profile:
Gao Zhiying, born in Lijiang, Yunnan, holds a Ph.D. in History from Yunnan University and a postdoctoral degree in Anthropology from Peking University. She is the chief expert of a major national social science project, a distinguished (second-level) professor and doctoral supervisor at Yunnan University, the director of the Institute of Frontier Studies, and the head of the Center for Innovation in Ethnic and Religious Studies. She also serves as a doctoral supervisor at the Southwest Associated Graduate School, a “Yunling Scholar” in Yunnan Province, and was recognized as the first “Most Beautiful Social Scientist” in Yunnan Province. Gao is a board member of the Chinese Ethnological Society, the Anthropological Society, and the Religious Studies Association, and an advisor to the Legislative Committee of the Yunnan Provincial People’s Congress. She is also a specially appointed expert for the United Front Work Department, the Ethnic and Religious Affairs Committee, the Department of Culture and Tourism, and the Department of Education in Yunnan Province. Gao has published 14 monographs on the ethnic history, culture, and economic changes in Southwest China and Southeast Asia, produced three documentary films on intangible cultural heritage, and published over 100 academic papers in journals such as “Ethnic Studies”, “World Ethnology”, and “World Religious Studies”.
